Roulette – A Guide to Roulette Bets
Although Roulette is a very simple game, players who are new to it are often confused by the seemingly complicated betting structure and as a result tend to miss out on some of the excellent betting opportunities the game offered and stick to the dimple colour and number bets. In this brief guide we will describe all the major bets, though you should gear in mind that it is not unusual for different casinos to have slightly different betting rule sets, though if you learn the following you will be well equipped to play.
Red or Black: This is the simplest bet and one at which most new players cut their Roulette teeth. You simply bet on whether the ball will end up in a red slot or a black slot. The odds of winning on a European wheel are 18 – 37 (or 18 – 38 on an American one). Payout is evens.
1-18 and 19-36: You can be on whether the ball will land on any of the slots numbered 1 to 18, or one numbered 19-39. Here the odds and the payout are exactly the same as on a Red or Black bet.
Odd or Even Numbers: Here you bet on whether the ball will end up in an odd or an even numbered slot. As there are the same number of odd numbers as evens, the odds and payout structure are identical to the bets listed above.
12’s: As there are 36 numbers, this bet allows you to choose whether the ball will end up is slits 1 to 12, 13 to 24, or 25 to 36. The payout on this bet is two to one.
Single Number Bets: Here you bet on any single number. This offers payouts of 35 to 1, which is one of the reasons for the popularity of the game.
Two Number Bets: By selecting the intersection of two numbers on the cloth, you can choose to bet on two numbers. The payout is 17 to 1.
Four Number Bets: This is an extension of the above. By selecting the intersection of 4 numbers you select all four of them. The payout is 8 to 1.
